If you’re like most people, you probably have a lot of transactions going through your Chime bank account. And if you’re like most people, you probably don’t want all of those transactions to show up on your recent history.
But, how to delete recent Chime bank transactions? You can’t delete recent Chime Bank transactions. Each transaction has to be recorded by law in order to protect both the customer and the bank. Today, I’m going to show you exactly how to remove Chime bank transactions from your bank statement and get your money back if you’ve been the victim of fraud.
On a side note, I’ll also cover some tips on how to “hide” transactions in the future if you don’t want them showing up on your Chime transaction history.
Deleting Recent Chime Bank Account Transactions
As I mentioned, unfortunately, you cannot delete a transaction from your Chime history.
Your bank transaction history is a detailed record stored on Chime’s servers and used to balance both your bank account and Chime’s records.
Banks are required by law to record each and every purchase that their users make using debit cards. This is to prevent fraud and ensure that everybody is treated fairly.
Transactions aren’t like text messages or call records.
Transactions hold weight and provide a record that money was sent and received digitally. If people could just delete their bank records at-will, think about how many people could get out of paying income taxes.
They could “delete” all of their paychecks and not pay a dime in taxes. This is why it’s not possible.
So, if you’ve already made the transaction, then you’re out of luck. Even if you return the product, it won’t help the situation.
In fact, upon completing a return, you’ll just create two records of the transaction. If you’ve purchased something that could bring you some heat, then you better come up with a good alibi!
That being said, however, there are a couple of different ways that you can be smarter about your transactions in the future.
“Hiding” transactions is entirely possible as long as you don’t make them through your actual bank account.
Use Cash Or Prepaid Cards To “Hide” Transactions
There’s a reason why all criminals use cash- it’s virtually untraceable.
There’s no way to prove where the cash came or went from with no receipts or records. Of course, if you’re withdrawing cash from your Chime bank, you’ll still have a record of the withdrawal, but you won’t be able to tell where the cash went.
A clever way to hide a cash withdrawal from your account is to get ‘cashback’ from the clerk while checking out at your local grocery or convenience store.
You can easily withdraw an extra $10 to $100, which will be added to the grocery store receipt. Your bank transaction records will just show that you went grocery shopping.
Another way to make discreet purchases is to use a prepaid debit card. You can purchase these prepaid debit cards from most grocery stores and even gas stations.
As with the ‘cashback’ option, your bank transaction record will just show that you went to the grocery store or gas station.
You can then use that prepaid card to make discreet debit card transactions anywhere.
Use Cash App With Chime
Another way to keep your transactions from appearing on your Chime bank records is to simply transfer the money from your Chime account to your Cash App.
The Chime records will show that you transferred money to a Cash App account, but all Cash App transactions are private.
They can only be viewed by you from your Cash App account and by the person you sent money.
How To Dispute A Chime Transaction
Hopefully, I’ve been able to teach you a few things about how to make more discreet purchases in the future.
What if you need to dispute a Chime transaction, though?
Somebody malicious could have obtained your card number or overcharged your account for something, resulting in an unrecognized, fraudulent charge to your account.
If this is the case, then I’m going to show you how to dispute the transaction and get your money back as quickly as possible.
Step 1: Call Chime Customer Service
Never rule out the possibility of an accident. If a certain store or restaurant overcharged your account, then calling them directly and getting them to refund the money is always the easiest. However, if that’ not possible, then you need to contacts Chime customer support as quickly as possible.
Step 2: Explain The Situation
Once they verify your account details using your account and [routing number], they’ll ask for some details regarding the disputed charge. Their team will then verify that the charge has legal grounds for dispute and that it is indeed fraud. Keep in mind that claiming a non-fraudulent charge as “fraud” is against the law and can come with serious fines and jail times.
Step 3: Wait For Them To Resolve It
Depending on how busy they are and the charge’s amount, they can take anywhere from a couple of hours to a few days to resolve the situation. Once they’ve verified that the charge has grounds for a legitimate fraud claim, then they’ll contact the appropriate authorities to try and catch the thief and issue a refund to your account.
When Will Chime Give Me My Money Back?
As long as the fraud claim is legitimate, Chime will usually issue you a refund for the amount in 1 to 3 business days.
Most bank accounts are covered by federal insurance (the FDIC), which ensures that fraudulent claims up to $250,000 can be covered and deposited into your account.
